The Music City Brewers Homebrew Club will hold annual elections at the regular club meeting to be held on January 11, 2020 at the home of Joseph Nance, located at 1628 Shady Circle, Lebanon, TN 37087. For those interested, a brew day will begin at 9 a.m. – The meeting and vote will begin at 3 p.m.
All club members current on 2019 or 2020 dues are eligible to vote. A paper vote will take place at the meeting, however an absentee ballot (email) will be accepted no later than January 9, 2020 to MusicCityBrewersClub@gmail.com.
Candidates for each position are as follows:
President
Joseph Nance
Qualifications:
* I have served as President in 2018 and Vice President in 2019.
* I do well at organizing events/function and setting agendas.
* I encourage an environment for club members to continues to learn and teach as well as get their social fulfillment.
* I was Mid-South Brewer of the year and TN Brewer of the year from 2018-2019.
* I can lead as well as follow.
My 2020 Vision:
* I plan to keep the Brew Style Challenge going, but this year I would like the club members to pick the beers they want to brew and learn about. I would also like the annual BSC Comp to continue to help encourage members to brew on a more regular basis. (Congratulations Brian Sommers for winning the 2019 BSC).
* I plan to start attending festivals again to help promote the club as well as grow the club’s membership.
* I would like to find a charity, agreed upon by the club members, and hold an event to raise funds for them. Our club reaching out to the community to help others would be a great thing to do in general.
* I plan to hold a mini club comp where club members bring their best beers, and have the club vote on the ones that will go to Club Night at NHC in Nashville.
* I would like to form a committee to create possible themes for Club Night and figure out ways to present it, as well as build all props, along with additional club members assisting with the build.
* I vow to promote our Annual Club Competition to its fullest and form the committee earlier in the year. This next year has great potential to be the biggest in the last 5 or 6 years.
* The Thirsty Thursday schedule will be set up for the whole year, and all club meeting locations should be set in stone no less than 2 weeks out, but the dates will be set at the beginning of the year.
* I plan to hold, with the help of John Lawless, an off flavor and tasting class to help each of us get better at picking up on them in beer.
* This year’s Big Brew Day will more than likely need to be at a new location, and I would like to explore different option with the club.
* I plan to hold a “field trip” to the water treatment plant and exploring water on a deeper level.
* I plan to hold a “professional” brew day, where the club gets to set in on a brew day and have the brewers go over everything they are doing and why they do it the way they do.
* I plan to hold a club brew day where we brew and fill a barrel to then bottle and split with all those that would like to participate.
* There are a few other special club group brewing projects I would like to hold, one being a possible SamiChlaus clone.

· 2020 is a very important year for our club with the National Homebrew Con coming to Nashville. This will take a lot of communication from the club and leadership to the members. I think I would be a consummate candidate for this position as I am very well versed in documentation professionally.

Treasurer
Steve Johnson
I would like to continue in the role of Treasurer for the Music City Brewers homebrew club for 2020. As many of you know, I am one of the founding members of the club, and have been the Treasurer for quite a few years now (at least ten?), having also held other positions in the club (Vice President, President, Competition Coordinator) as well as being a “go to” historian when it has come to seeking advice on what we have done in the past in addition to offering suggestions on what we can do in the future. Through my contacts in the local and national brewing community, I have also been able to assist in coordinating various events and activities for the club since its start in 1996.
Since taking on the role of Treasurer, I have been a faithful steward of managing the club’s finances, and have years of documentation on past expenditures that will also help us in planning for events in the future. We all know that 2020 will be a major year for the club as we prepare for the National Homebrewing Convention, known as HomebrewCon, that will be here in Nashville in June, as well as our own Music City Brew-Off in the Fall, which will be our 25th such event.
Despite my retirement and subsequent moving to Crossville, I plan to continue to be an active participant and supporter of the club, and work with the club’s leadership team and members to help our 2020 celebrations be financially sustainable and make every effort to create working budgets for these events that will ensure that we stay within our means. I anticipate that in order to do so, we may need to work more diligently than we have in past years to get additional real dollar sponsorships to assist us in putting together two big events in the same year. I will do everything I can to assist in this effort.
I look forward to continuing to serve in the capacity of club Treasurer, and being a part of and supporting the Music City Brewers for many years to come!
