A few words and thoughts from our club president.

Welcome to the Music City Brewers website! On behalf of the Club, I want to extend to you an invitation to join us in our hobby--some might say obsession--of designing and brewing our own beer. You don't have to be an expert brewer by any means. Heck, you don't even have to be a brewer at all, or even drink beer for that matter. (Though you're missing out on a lot of fun). And that's what it's about--fun--and learning. We've got new brewers and some pretty old ones, too. We try to help each other learn better ways to brew by discussion and observation and have fun doing it. If you're new to brewing or just curious about the mysteries of the brewing art, come on by. You can check the website for times, locations of, and directions to, our meetings which are held on the second Saturday of each month. Meetings are held at different local brewpubs, watering holes or members' homes, and we have tastings at the meetings to evaluate the members' efforts or to try some special micro or craft brew someone's discovered. We have an annual American Homebrewer Association sanctioned competition, the Music City Brew-Off, in which brewers from from the Mid-South and other regions enter their brews. Prizes and awards are handed out for the various styles of beer, and Best of Show award is given for the best beer of the whole Brew-Off. It's fun to enter and see how you stack up with your creation against other brewers and get valuable feedback from the judges. The proceeds go to the Children's Miracle Network to benefit Vanderbilt Children's Hospital here in Nashville--a charity we're proud to support. Members also enter other competitions in the Mid-South brewing area to try to score Club points in regional competition. We also have a Pro-Am competition in which a Club member's brew is chosen for brewing by Boscos Brewpub and entry into the Great American Beer Festival. Membership in the club is $24 a year and gets you discounts at some local beer establishments and brewing suppliers. With members whose nicknames range from Philsner to Hop God, you'll meet some interesting people. We run the gamut from engineers, lawyers, (don't let that deter you) computer folks, PhDs, TV folks, restauranteurs, and even a minister. We hope to see you soon! Bill Russell President
